Check the screws on every other blade as well. Blade replacement may disturb nearby hardware, and an older screw may already have worked loose.

Inspect Other Accessible Parts

The blades are not always the source of the wobble.

Check accessible fasteners on the blade holders, light kit and downrod assembly as allowed by the manual. Look for missing washers, loose covers or components that may tap against each other.

If the entire motor housing or canopy moves against the ceiling, stop the fan. That suggests a mounting issue rather than a simple blade imbalance.

Do not remove the canopy or alter ceiling wiring unless you are qualified to do so.

What if the Clip Makes the Wobble Worse?

If the clip makes the fan worse on every part of the replacement blade, that blade may already be heavier than the others.

Test the clip on the remaining blades. Adding a small amount of weight to an original blade may balance the heavier replacement.

If no systematic clip position improves the fan, recheck the blade holder, mounting angle and replacement blade compatibility. Stop adding weights until the underlying cause is identified.

Why Blade Pitch Matters

Blade pitch is the angle at which each blade moves through the air.

A replacement blade or holder with a different pitch may create more or less lift than the others. The fan can then wobble even when all blade weights are similar.

Compare the blades from the side while the fan is stationary. Check for a bent holder, trapped debris, uneven seating or a blade installed upside down.

Balancing weights can correct small weight differences. They cannot correct a major difference in blade angle.

Three-Blade and Five-Blade Fans

The balancing method is similar for both designs.

A three-blade fan may show a mismatch more clearly because fewer blades share the rotating load. Test each blade carefully rather than assuming the visibly lowest blade is responsible.

Watch the downrod and canopy while the fan runs. The mounting point should remain stable.
